Electronic Arts and Battlefield Studios released Battlefield REDSEC on October 28, 2025. This free-to-play battle royale mode is part of Battlefield 6 Season 1. This release is a big step forward for the Battlefield series. It adds a new twist to battle royale gameplay while keeping the series’ trademark large-scale warfare elements.
A New Bold Path: REDSEC
Battlefield REDSEC, which stands for “Redacted Sector,” is a separate battle royale mode that combines the classic Battlefield gameplay with the high level of competition found in modern battle royales. Unlike past Battlefield games, REDSEC is completely free to play and doesn’t require you to own Battlefield 6. However, players who do own the base game can enjoy extra content and features.
The mode takes players to Fort Lyndon, the biggest map in Battlefield history, which is in a war-torn part of Southern California. Matches can have up to 100 players in pairs or groups. They focus on strategy, interacting with the environment, and fighting in vehicles. One cool thing about the game is the “firestorm” mechanic, which instantly kills players who touch the encroaching zone. This makes every match more urgent and tense.
Gauntlet Mode: Competition with Accuracy
For players who want a more organized and competitive experience, REDSEC has Gauntlet, a tournament-style mode where eight teams of four compete in five-minute rounds. In each round, teams have to complete different tasks and face different challenges. The teams with the lowest scores are eliminated until only one remains. This mode tests not only how good someone is at something, but also how well they can work with others and adapt.

Portal Mode: Freedom to Be Creative
REDSEC brings back the Portal mode from Battlefield 2042, but with better tools for making and changing maps. Players can create their own game modes and maps in the huge Fort Lyndon environment, which encourages a community-driven content ecosystem. This mode encourages players to be creative and play the game again and again, giving them new and interesting ways to experience Battlefield.
Progression shared with Battlefield 6
One of the best things about REDSEC is that it works with Battlefield 6. Both games have the same progression system, which includes a Season 1 battle pass that gives players cosmetics and other in-game items. This cross-game progression makes sure that time spent in REDSEC helps unlock content in Battlefield 6 and vice versa, making the experience on both platforms feel like one.
A New Age for Battlefield
Battlefield REDSEC’s release along with Battlefield 6 Season 1 is a big step forward for the series. EA and Battlefield Studios have brought the series back to life by using the free-to-play model and adding new gameplay modes. This has made the series appealing to both old and new fans. With plans for seasonal updates and content made by players, REDSEC is set to become a mainstay in the battle royale genre, giving players all over the world a fun and exciting experience.
Battlefield is always changing, and the addition of REDSEC to the larger Battlefield 6 ecosystem shows that the franchise is dedicated to new ideas and keeping players interested. Battlefield REDSEC is a full and exciting addition to the Battlefield universe. You can parachute into intense firefights, plan your moves in Gauntlet mode, or make your own custom experiences in Portal.
